A report that Virginia Tech students were very mature in handling the media in the aftermath of the shocking shooting last week.

“Thank you, Virginia Tech Students

“I, like the Governor of Virginia and many others have been impressed with the level-headedness and goodwill demonstrated by the students of Virginia Tech during the recent killings there.

“I wish I could feel the same way about the press who interviewed them.”

Initial results from the French Presidential elections – Nicolas Sarkozy and Socialist Segolene Royal will face each other in a run-off election.

“As most polls predicted, conservative Nicolas Sarkozy (29.6 percent) and Socialist Segolene Royal (25.1 percent) will face each other in a run-off election. François Bayrou, who had been considered a serious rival of Ms. Royal, earned only 18.7 percent of the vote, far below the polls’ predictions.”

“The winner of the run-off will replace current President Jaques Chirac, who has held office for twelve years. “

Columbia University Chinese Students Threaten Violence to Disrupt Forum April 21, 2007

This is really, really irate. In response to an organ harvesting forum organized by the Falun Gong club, the Columbia University mainland Chinese student’s club threatened violence to disrupt the forum.

Some quotes from the insanely hate-stirring e-mail sent out to the students by the Chinese student’s club:

“It’s guessed that they may use the reason that CUCSSA’s leader does not follow the meeting’s rule to ask security to remove him/her. That may entail inevitable body contact…

“We will use the sea of flags dyed by blood, to beat the *** high spirit…!”

This is referring to Falun Gong, the meditation practice that was outlawed in mainland China by the Chinese Communist Party in 1999.

One of the speakers at the forum, Dr. David Matas, was one of the authors of the organ harvesting report.

In the mourning: Imus has been fired for his provocative comments on the Rutgers Woman’s Basketball Team, and we bid him good adieu. An excellent article by Genevieve Long from The Epoch Times on this issue called “Looking at Racism, the Radio, and Us”.

“You could almost feel the satisfaction of city residents who had been following the story. Imus was out. The streets were safe again from racists with microphones and a license to broadcast. In a high-rise towering above the city, CBS executives might have even felt that ousting Imus would preserve their reputation and status as a trusted source of news.”

But she ends with a thought-provoking point about whether Imus’s end means the end of racism, or just the beginning of a long debate:

” To think that our demons on the issue of race can be battled in one round with a character on the radio might be a dangerous assumption. Too many of us have come too close to this issue in our lives to dismiss it so readily. With Imus gone, maybe there will be another debate and round of questions—but this time we should ask ourselves for some answers.”

Matthew Rogers of EET has a hard-hitting and critical movie review of “Perfect Stranger”, with Halle Berry and Bruce Willis. The review calls it “the most unthrilling thriller in recent memory”.

“If it seems a distant memory to you then imagine how the actress feels because she has built on this deserved success with Catwoman , Gothika , and arguably the worst Bond movie ever Die Another Day.”

The review suggests that Bruce Willis and Halle Berry are both cast in really bad roles in a really bad movie, and give it a really low rating.

Citigroup to Cut Jobs April 11, 2007

Citigroup plans to cut jobs and save 4 billion dollars, reports EET. They plan to cut 17,000 jobs, around half of which will be in the United States.

“An additional 9,500 jobs will move to lower-cost locations worldwide, including two-thirds through attrition, meaning 8 percent of the bank’s 327,000-person workforce will be affected.”

Citigroup “loses about 20,000 workers a year through attrition.”

Apparently, Merrill Lynch & Co. and other industry watchers expect the moves to be favorable to Citigroup: they expect this to help Citi make profits for 2007.

True or not? Well, if they stopped sending over money to the Chinese Communist Party, that would help them for sure…
