Looks like the PC industry is undergoing further consolidation. Acer has bought Gateway, putting a wrench in Lenovo’s plans to take over Packard Bell. With this acquisition, Acer has become the third largest PC manufacturer in the world.
“The deal will create a $15 billion PC manufacturer with shipments of close to 20 million PCs per year. Industry analysts say that the deal makes sense for both Gateway and Acer, which have both lost share value and PC shipments recently in the hypercompetitive computer industry.”
“Acer will pay around $1.90 per share for Gateway, a 57% premium over its Aug. 24 closing price.”

The fires in Greece have reached Olympia, the birthplace of the Olympic Games. In addition, 57 people have been killed in the fires – this is really sad.
The worst part is that it appears that the fires may not just be a natural disaster. As the article says,
Prime Minister Costas Karamanlis said that having so many fires in different places at the same time is not a coincidence, and that the criminals would soon be found and punished. At the time being, 4 people were arrested on the suspicion of committing arson.

EET’s review of The Nanny Diaries gives it a rating of 3.5 out of 5. The story is a feel good family story, so that means its probably something that can be watched with family over the weekend.
‘”The Nanny Diaries” is an entertaining, coming-of-age tale set to life in New York City’s posh Upper East Side.’ ‘Our tour guide on this anthropologic field trip into primitive Upper East Side Manhattan is Annie Braddock (the always delightful Scarlett Johansson), a quintessential American 20-something, freshly graduated from college, nervously excited as she looks to find her place in life.’
In the movie, Scarlett Johansson plays Annie Braddock, a fresh college graduate who doesn’t take to Wall Street. She runs in a young boy Grayer, whose mother … “Mrs. X (Laura Linney), who’s oozing Upper East Side nouveau riche, refuses to take no for an answer when she offers Annie the job as Grayer’s nanny.”
From there begins “egins the anthropology lesson about the fascinating world of nannydom on the Upper East Side.”
